We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with 9000 staff serving a local population of around 695,000 people from five hospitals and multiple community clinics.  Our reputation for delivering high quality specialist care, particularly in urology, kidney disease, and vascular services, as well as for our research and innovation is both national and international.  Our vision is ‘great healthcare from great people’ and our pursuit of excellence lies at the heart of all that we do.

We have much to be proud of; but recognise that there is also much more to do.  The challenges presented by the current pandemic, requirements to improve standards of care and our ageing infrastructure cannot and should not be ignored.  As a Trust we do not underestimate the journey ahead but we face it with ambition and a single minded determination and commitment to improve the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve and the experiences of our staff and our patients.  Much has changed at East Kent this year, including the appointment of a new Chair and Board members, but our commitment we have to the people of Kent remains steadfast.

We believe in placing clinical leadership at the heart of everything we do and we are determined to build on what has already been achieved to develop and transform all our services.  We have a comprehensive quality improvement programme (“We Care”) which is being rolled out across the Trust.  It is a philosophy which underpins all that we do and how we do it. It’s how we’re working to give great care to every patient, every day. It’s about being clear about what we want to focus on and why, and supporting staff to make real improvements, by training, coaching and everyone using one, standard method to make positive changes. It’s about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day.  It’s a key part of our improvement journey – it’s how we’re going to achieve our vision of great healthcare from great people for every patient, every time.

We are now seeking a Deputy Chief Nursing Officer to support the Chief Nursing Officer at both a strategic and an operational level to lead our Nurses, Midwives and AHP’s in this journey of change.  At a time when innovative, ambitious and compassionate leadership is more important than ever, we are seeking an inspirational individual with extensive senior nursing experience and a commitment to embedding a managerially enabled culture across the nursing directorate. Uncompromising of professional nursing standards; and committed to supporting the delivery of outstanding patient care and consistent service improvement, the appointed individual will hold a delegated trust-wide improvement portfolio on behalf of the Chief Nursing Officer and will lead for specific Trust-wide programmes of work to build sustainability in quality governance and assurance, improve clinical quality and the patient experience and deliver sustained improvement through empowering front line teams.

If you can see yourself sharing our ambition and our commitment to transform all our services, we would love to hear from you.
